A paraprosdokian is a ten dollar word. I looked it up. According to Wikipedia, it means "a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence is surprising or unexpected, causing a listener to reinterpret" the first part of the sentence. It is often "used for humor, or dramatic effect ... sometimes producing an anticlimax." So unwittingly, many of us have heard paraprosdokians throughout our lives....
